Meeting of the BLUEMED GSO Working Group
The First meeting of the BLUEMED Group of Senior Officials Working Group following the Kick-off held in Bruxelles last 28th February. Appointed delegates from Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Turkey, Malta, Portugal, Spain will attend.
Aiming at promoting the extension of the BLUEMED Initiative and related activities to non-EU UfM Countries willing to join on a voluntary basis, the GSO BLUEMED WG has the mandate of:
- facilitating and promoting the BLUEMED SRIA adoption by the bordering Mediterranean countries;
- promoting cooperation/joint actions with the two sub-regional Mediterranean Initiatives “EU Strategy for the Adriatic Ionian Region” (EUSAIR) and the “Western Mediterranean initiative” of the European Commission (DG REGIO, DG MARE);
- liaising with relevant public and private organisations and programmes management authorities;
- disseminating BLUEMED achievements in high-level policy events and towards major framework programmes for research and innovation.
Third BLUEMED Platforms Meeting
Following the Second Platforms Meeting of Athens (1-2 February 2018), where the roadmap to succeed the 1st SRIA update has been agreed upon through consultation with stakeholders in EU countries resulting on the 2018 updated SRIA and the summer BLUEMED tour in non-EU countries, where the SRIA and its rationale have been presented in Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan and Turkey and participants have been engaged in providing their inputs as a first milestone towards establishing shared priorities and starting the development of an implementation plan to realise joint actions, the Third BLUEMED Platforms Meeting will profit of the contribution from non-EU stakeholders in order to start the process of incorporating it in the next update of the SRIA.
Second Research Funders Workshop
After the 1st Research Funders Workshop in Brussels (March 2018), this edition in October aims to consolidate the Operational Network of marine and maritime Research Funders, with the expected participation of all previous attendees and many more joining for the first time.
One goal of BLUEMED is the creation and consolidation of an Operational Network of marine and maritime Research Funders (public agencies and ministries but also other funding initiatives, including the philanthropic and private sectors). The aim of this network is to add value to the EU investments by contributing to coordinate available funding from different sources in order to make a more efficient use of national and European resources. The Operational Network will strengthen the cooperation among research funders of EU and non-EU countries for the implementation of the BLUEMED SRIA, facilitating the alignment of national priorities (research and innovation strategies and programmes) and funding joint actions to address the key challenges of the BLUEMED SRIA.
